Language Games

This week, you, the audience are invited to bring CD's of music, private recordings or anything special you might choose to be incorporated into Brandon LaBelle's performance Language Games. LaBelle along with two participant performers will interpret these recordings in a process of listening and translation. Sina Khani writes projected responses to the source material as LaBelle creates a second projection placing 'texts' into 'narrative' structure, whilst Pedro Inês acts as vocal narrator.

Please come by at 21:30 in order to pass on CD's to be included in the performance.

Staged as a generative drama with three bodies, a pair of headphones, CDs, some writing and a song, the work is a situational unfolding of errant narratives. You go that way, and I'll go this way, and then we'll meet on the other side, ok? Mishearing, misunderstanding, and misrepresenting appear as characters whose interactions produce a chain of associations, with sound as the main protagonist.

Brandon LaBelle is an artist and writer. He presented an exhibition at Singuhr galerie in Berlin (2004), and an experimental composition for pirate drummers at Virtual Territories, Nantes (2005). His ongoing project to build a library of radio memories, Phantom Radio, was presented at Radio Revolten, Halle in 2006 and at Casa Vecina, Mexico City in 2008. He is the author of Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art (Continuum, 2006) and co-editor of Radio Territories (Errant Bodies Press, 2007).
