Set 1:

Juan Parra and Frances-Marie Uitti

Juan Parra - computer
Frances-Marie Uitti - cello

Frances-Marie Uitti is a soloist who's technique has extended the possibilities and repertoire of the cello in contemporary music. Her mastery using two bows which produce a far broader spectrum of sound and harmony has earned her multiple dedications from some of the most important contemporary music composers, including James Tenney, Luigi Nono, John Cage and Iannis Xenakis. Juan Parra is an electro-acoustic composer and performer playing live computer music. He has toured extensively with his trio The Electronic Hammer and is a prominent graduate of the Institute of Sonology. In this new collaboration they will present solo and duo formations.

Set 2:

James Blackshaw with Jozef van Wissem

James Blackshaw - 12 string guitar
Jozef van Wissem - 13 course baroque lute

James Blackshaw is an exceptional young British guitarist fast being noted as an acoustic innovator, in this setting he is playing a duo with Amsterdam's Jozef van Wissem, a string player also updating the possibilities of an instrument with a long established canon. Tonight they are presenting pieces from their new album Brethren of the Free Spirit. The music can be thought of as a highly virtuosic and contemporary exploration of folk forms through a particularly deep understanding of sonic riches through extended instrumental techniques.
