DNK Amsterdam is organising a house concert!

Two Dutch premieres for two internationally traveling duos: The Same Ensemble are former residents of Moskow, now resident in Berlin and London and Seamus Cater and Fredrik Rasten have established a collaborative 'well tuned folk' project which has been developing for 2 years in Austria, Berlin and Amsterdam.

This is a donation concert with a suggested donation of €8, mainly to cover travel costs.

The Same Ensemble

The Same Ensemble is a duo formed in 2013 by Sasha Elina and cyril scheer. They perform original compositions and arrangements, intertwining experimental chamber pop with new music. They strive to play music that is ever-transparent, so that not only sound, but contact is heard; not only structure, but interacting personalities of both the participants. Transferring their programmes from place to place, from time to time, the Same Ensemble revise reality in the intimate sound of voice and instruments, producing stories of sounds’ interrelation with subtle emotional structures. In 2021, The Same Ensemble contributed to a double-CD on Edition Wandelweiser.

Sharing a love of English and Scottish traditional song, Seamus Cater and Fredrik Rasten search for a grounded resonance, both literal and musical. The repertoire explores existing ballads and proposes ballads which may never have been written in song form. At their first concert they were announced as playing old songs with new tunings, while in fact these are old songs with even older tunings. The collectors which gathered and revived folk song might somehow equate to Helmholtz and Partch gathering ancient Greek tunings, Rasten and Cater tread delicate paths between these revivalists.
